Final Magazine Advert

This is my final copy of my magazine advert, used to accompany and promote my chosen song. From now and the previous version, I have made only minor changes, however I believe that these, in the long run, add significantly to the product as a whole. The most evident change is the import of a brush, in the form of a faded leaf. I added this because my feedback suggested that the bottom of the page looks a bit bland in places and I should add something there to fill in the space. I used the leaf brush because I feel that it ties in well with the song title 'Evening/Morning', due to the feelings of nature that it connotes. Most of the other changes I made were minor, with slight adjustments of size and position made to each of the contents of the poster, as these minor errors will make the poster look poor.

Magazine Adverts - A Comparison

For my final advert poster design, I decided to make two copy’s, as after looking at similar product research, I discovered that this was something that quite a lot of bands did to promote their song, and in particular was conventional for my specific genre.

My first poster is a development from my second draft poster. It uses a full bleed image that is the same as on my Digipak, as not only is this a conventional feature, but it also highlights a link between the two ancillary texts. It includes the name of the album and a few reviews, as well as conventional a company logo and a date of release. This copy appears fairly conventional, and is likely to be seen in indie magazines, as this genre has a strong focus on having an icon that represents the band, and the full bleed image helps to emphasise this.

My second poster was developed after I sought inspiration from the internet, with a majority of posters using a smaller image to allow more space for extra writing. I included quite a dark deep purple colour, as not only is this colour conventional for my genre, but I also felt it went well with my image and font choices. A border was included purely for aesthetic purposes, and this works well with the black writing featured on the bottom of the page. I included several reviews from well known sources, and also the band name and album name. Similarly to my other design, the  date is included on the image, as it allows the reader to draw an instant link between the date and the album release. This album is likely to be featured in perhaps a non-music magazine or a newspaper, as it adopts a much less specific method of selling the magazine, and helps to give the reader much more detail about the album, such as including track lists, something that a fan of the genre itself that reads indie magazines may not require.

Two Magazine Advert Possibilites

I have been working on my magazine adverts and have finally finalised two examples of versions I may use. I have decided on including two posters, as I feel that both were of a high quality, and also, due to similar product research, I discovered that in some cases two versions of adverts are made and used depending on where they are being included, dependant on target audience for each magazine for example. I will likely pick one of these magazine to use as my final version in the future

Having created two designs for my magazine advert, I thought it would be a good idea to get some feedback from my peers to see which they prefer, and also to give me constructive feedback on each.

After creating two versions of my, I thought doing a comparison, showing how I feel about each draft would be useful in deciding which one I will use to progress with.

My first advert draft I originally thought looked very good. I liked the typeface choice, as I thought it both matched my genre and layout, and thought the colour scheme fitted it well. I also thought the background that I chose to use was fairly conventional, as dark colours are often associated with the indie genre. The quote positioning I felt was good as it included a range of quotes, without needing too much space that could be otherwise used more effectively. However, the big space in the middle I didn't think was very appealing. I tried inserting a number of images here, including a picture of my CD, and the image that is used on my second draft, however neither of them looked particularly good with  the colour scheme I chose, which is the main downfall with this product.

My second draft, uses a full bleed image, the same as that which I plan to include on my Digipak, which is conventional for my genre, and also gives  an image to the album. I used the same font, however I changed a bit of positioning, and the colours as the colours I had originally chosen did not fit well with the image I had. I also chose to add a date so the reader will know when the album is out, adding to its practicality. Although there is space in the middle again, I feel that this works as it allows a bit of space to look solely at the image, and due to the full bleed, this part does not look plain.

Whilst both copies are drafts, I must choose between one of them on which to continue my work on. Personally, I think I prefer my second draft, as it looks much more processional and helps to promote my CD better. However I will make sure to get some feedback before I make this decision.

This is my second Photoshop draft for my magazine advert. I completely revamped it from my first Photoshop draft, as I felt it looked a bit amateur, and thought that the full bleed image was both effective and conventional for my genre.

Photoshop Advert Draft

This is my first draft for my advert poster. Although I'm not completely happy with it, I think its acceptable for a first draft. I plan to add something between the bottom song title and the upper wording, perhaps an image of a disk. I plan to get some feedback on this and continue on with it soon.

UPDATE: I have recieved some feedback on my poster.  Someone suggested that I reduce the size of the quotes, and increased the size of the band name. Someone also suggested, as I thought, to add an image in the center. I like the idea of a the disk, and I plan to work on this in the future.

Magazine Advert Draft

This is the first draft that I have made for my magazine advert. I like how it looks, however I'm not to sure on the image i've chosen.
I recieved feedback on this, and people said that maybe I should use the same image as I plan to use in my digipak
